Schutzenski
This past October, athletes from our local Bogus Basin Nordic Team traveled to Soldier Hollow, Utah to take part in Schutzenski, a pre-season collection of roller ski races.
Nordic races although typically reliant on snow, are able to be held early in the season on roller skis, allowing athletes to practice both skate and classic techniques on pavement. Roller skiing simulates the techniques and endurance of Nordic skiing, allowing our athletes to maintain their skills and fitness year-round, ensuring they're ready when the snow eventually falls.
Surrounded by many great names from the sport including that of Jessie Diggins and Rosie Brennan, our athletes competed in a 10-kilometer classic race as well as a skate sprint bracket consisting of 4 total races. In addition to being starstruck by some of their idols, this weekend of racing gave them a chance to preview the coming season and become confident in how to properly prepare for each race day, both mentally and physically.
Caleb Boyce notably finished the 10k classic race in 12th for the U20 division, Claire Otanicar finished 4th for U16s followed by teammate Alice Hamilton finishing 5th U16.
Bogus Basin Nordic Team athletes are excitedly looking forward to this year of racing, you may catch them training up and down the Green Belt and various other locations across Boise until snow hits the mountain. Follow @bogusbasinnordicteam on Instagram to stay up-to-date on the team's successes.
